Lower Elementary Program

(Ages 6 to 9 years)

At this level, math curriculum follows a definite sequence of materials which create a visual impression in the minds of the children, as to the meaning of our base ten math system, the mathematical operations, as well as algebraic and geometric concepts. Children have the opportunity to move at their own pace through the manipulation of the hands on materials, from concrete representation of numbers and numerical concepts to abstract understanding. The teacher assesses the child’s progress and presents lessons as the child demonstrates readiness for them.

The language arts curriculum begins with a history of language itself and its significance to humankind, and from this overview, moves into specialized lessons. The lessons are divided into four major skill areas: grammar, word study, composition and spelling. All of these lessons are interwoven and presented through story telling and manipulatives, giving the work meaning to the child.

The cultural lessons presented in the social studies, as well as the science areas, are intriguing and exciting. They promote creative thinking, problem solving and lay a strong foundation for the acquisition of complex scientific theory, geographical concepts and cultural awareness. Of course, the use of computers is integrated into all areas of the curriculum, including the use of telecommunications for research and cultural exchanges.
