About the School
Summit Private School is an independent, co-educational day school following the teaching principles and methods of Dr. Maria Montessori. Serving the community for twenty years, we are accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of Florida, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and a member of the American Montessori Society. We have chosen a Montessori educational approach for Summit because Montessori education is based on respect for the individual child, respect for others and respect for all forms of life.
Basic to Montessori education is the interrelationship between the child’s physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development. We believe that children construct their minds according to an inner drive. To facilitate this construction, children need carefully prepared environments where they can absorb impressions through their senses, work with their hands and develop concepts with their imaginations and reasoning minds.
To achieve this mission Summit has created a school atmosphere where children can respond to their natural drive to work and learn. Children may progress at their own pace and rhythm with guidance from specially trained teachers. Through the integration of these principles, Summit has created a nurturing environment where children will become lifelong learners who possess an enthusiasm for knowledge, a positive self-image and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technology in the twenty-first century.
The Environment
In addition to three separate playgrounds, our campus includes an on-site aquatic center, music and art room, fully-stocked kitchen and a computerized library where students visit weekly to use our collection of over 3,000 books. One of the most popular areas at Summit is the children’s garden, where botany and zoology are studied. Tending to butterflies, fish and plants, our students learn responsibility and experience great pride in this outdoor classroom.
You will find our classrooms to be clean, attractive, child-sized, orderly and fully equipped to meet the needs of your child. Even in our early childhood programs, our students learn by touching and seeing during their lessons.
School uniforms are required for Pre-School through Elementary.
