Hello Everyone!

Well we’ve had our first week and a half of school and we are off to a great start.  The children have spent a lot of the time getting to know one another, just as they are getting to know Stephanie and me and us to know them.  The class is very active and social, and they still get work completed!

All of the students have received two lessons on the Function of the Noun and the Solar System.  The 2nd graders are working on cursive and word problems.  The 1st graders started their first week of spelling.  The first grade spelling will be done in class.  The 2nd graders will be receiving a spelling book that will be completed as homework with a test in class on Fridays.  (These books are on order and we will begin them as soon as they arrive at Summit.)  Some students have begun researching the United States and others are practicing the puzzle maps of different countries.  On Thursday and Friday we will began reviewing math with golden beads and the bead frame.  Our specials are going well, with P.E. being the favorite!

Our new tables have arrived and should be in full use Thursday morning.  We are still waiting for the chairs, but the chairs from the library are getting good use.

As a class, we will be having a few special holiday luncheons throughout the year, along with cooking lessons 2-3 times a month.  Because these luncheon and cooking supplies cost money, I am asking each family to contribute $50 to a class fund.  Most of the money will go towards the holiday luncheons, with around $15 going towards the cooking lessons.  If there is any money left at the end of the year, we will have a special activity or luncheon the last week of school.  I ask that this money be paid in cash.

I would like to thank Jill Palmer (Ethan’s mom) for accepting the job of Room Parent.  If you would like to help Jill out, please feel free to drop her a note in the purple folder on the wall inside the classroom door.

I will try to email each week (or two) to let you know what is going on in the classroom.  Feel free to come in the classroom when you pick up your child to check out their “Work Record.”

Please remember to turn in your money if your child will be eating pizza on Tuesdays or Fridays.
