All Elementary Students & Adults Welcome!
Capoeira is an African-Brazilian martial arts that involves music, singing, acrobatics, mind, and spirit. It is a game of two opponents that play each other inside a circle formed by the other players who create rhythm by clapping, singing, and playing the bermibau (which is the most important instrument in capoeira), and other key instruments. The two players in the game compete with each other using capoeira movements, playful camouflaging the self defense kicks with playful acrobatics and dance-like moves creating strategy to fool their partner and catch them off guard.
Negao is an experienced instructor of capoeira, who was recommended to us by a Summit parent. He developed an interest in capoeira after passing by a presentation in Brazil at the age of 16. He trained nearly every day for several years before receiving a cord high enough to begin his own class. He formed an all age class in his city in Brazil and taught there for a year before deciding to come to the United States.
He arrived in Newark, New Jersey and found an academy where he immediately started training and teaching a kids class. The kids’ class grew especially fast and he had close to 30 kids ranging from 6 years old to 12 years old.
Negao is currently living in Boca Raton and is teaching at two different academies. Negao has devoted much of his life to the art of capoeira and has traveled around the states to take classes and learn from some of the most respected capoeristias in the world. Negao hopes to pass on his knowledge and skills in capoeira to kids and adults interested in this form of art.
Capoeira class, complete with the martial arts, dance, music & instruments, will be held on: Mondays: 3:10-4:40pm for Elementary Students & 4:45-6pm for Adults
Cost is $135 for 8 weeks
(plus $25 One-time Registration fee)
