SUMMIT SCHOOL ENTERS 2008 FLORIDA STATE GARDEN COMPETITION!!!
SUMMIT SCHOOL ENTERS 2008 FLORIDA STATE GARDEN COMPETITION
On March 2lst, our school submitted an official entry to the elementary school garden competition sponsored by EPCOT and the University of Florida. A five-page application, 50 photographs, diagrams of our gardens and pages of the children’s drawings and work were submitted. It does not matter if we win the competition - schools are recognized for their hard work in the gardens and receive several gifts for just entering the competition.
In the last few weeks, the children have been enjoying eating string beans, sugar snap peas, broccoli and tomatoes from our gardens. The mint and basil are very popular. However, the season is changing and we are reorganizing some of our plantings. Now is the time to plant native Florida plants. They will thrive in our hot spring and summer months. Any suggestions to beautify our gardens are always appreciated.
Please visit our “Bird and Lizard Village” with your child. It is located on the far side of the parking lot on the cement platform. The elementary students continue to work hard to decorate and add to it.
